Nestled in the midst of misty hills, valleys and meadows, Nuwara Eliya is situated 6200 feet above sea level, making it a popular vacation spot for those looking to get away from the hot and humid tropical weather to something milder and colder. For this very reason, Nuwara Eliya was developed by British planters in the late 1800s who made it their vacation home and called it "little England". The Racecourse, the Hill Club and Nuwara Eliya Golf Club built by the British have preserved its Colonial architecture to this day.
The season in Nuwara Eliya is April, however, that is a month to be avoided as that is when Sri Lankans come here to escape the heat and take part in various celebrations. Any other time of year is best for you to enjoy what this town has to offer.
